‘Avengers Age of Ultron’ does not have post-credits scene, says Joss Whedon

Avengers: Age of Ultron will certainly make a splash, likely challenging the $200 million mark opening weeekend. One new bit of news for fans, is the exclusion of the post-credits scene, made popular in other Marvel films. Fans expecting Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, a further set up for Ant-Man or Captain Marvel may be disappointed.

Entertainment Weekly spoke recently with director Joss Whedon about the latest rumors and surprisingly, the writer/director revealed  that he couldn’t top the shawarma scene.

Ultron portrait The Avengers Age of Ultron“We all came at it separately—we don’t want to chase that,” said Whedon. “That was a jewel and a weird little quirk. There is nothing at the very end. And that’s not a fake-out. We want people to know so they don’t sit there for 10 minutes and then go: ‘Son of a bitch! I’ll kill them!'”

Whedon says he and Marvel did try to come up with something. “It didn’t seem to lend itself in the same way, and we wanted to be true to what felt right,” Joss Whedon says.

“The first rule of making a sequel is take the best moments and do something else. Don’t do the Indiana Jones gun trick again differently. Just go somewhere else. Don’t try to hit the same highs, because people will sense it.”

Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige also spoke with EW, confirming Whedon’s comments that there will not be a post-credits scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, “There will be a [mid-credits] tag,” he said, “but there’s not a post-post-credit scene.”

Feige dodged details about the 2018 Captain Marvel movie, teasing that there is a “secret female character” in the upcoming Marvel sequel: “It’s not a big deal, but it’s a good character.”

Neither Whedon nor Feige would reveal exactly who the recently revealed cast members Linda Cardellini and Julie Delpy are playing in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The film stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) with Paul Bettany (Vision), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Andy Serkis and James Spader (Ultron). Anthony Mackie is belived to be making an appearance as Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier and Don Cheadle as War Machine.

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters May 1, 2015.
