‘Avatar’ trilogy still coming as James Cameron and Dark Horse comics agree on deal to expand universe

Dark Horse Comics’ Avatar is going to expand James Cameron’s franchise beyond the scope of the big screen as he works on three new films. At the New York Comic-con Cameron appeared in a video during the Dark Horse panel announcing the partnership.

“I’m excited that starting now, even before the release of the first sequel, Dark Horse Comics will be bringing you new adventures from Pandora covering the time before, during, and after the events of the original Avatar film,”Cameron said in the video, check it out below.

James Cameron has been working with the Dark Horse team since the Terminator and the deal shouldn’t be a surprise. The produced material spun off from the Alien franchise and other films like The Abyss.

Dark Horse president Mike Richardson said, “James Cameron is one of the film industry’s greatest talents. His films, always on the cutting edge technologically, feature rich characters and amazing worlds, a fact reflected in Avatar’s status as the all time box-office champion. We couldn’t be more excited about working with James and his team at Lightstorm to expand the breathtaking world of Pandora.”

Dark Horse Comics’ Avatar does not have a release date yet.

A sequel to the epic film is coming up and will be making its release on Dec. 25, 2017.

Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver all confirmed to return, reprising their role from the first film.

Avatar 3 will arrive in theaters in 2018 and then another film, Avatar 4, in 2019.
