‘Avatar 2’ and sequels will have Dileep Rao back
Dileep Rao is set to reprise his role of Dr. Max Patel in James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequels at 20th Century Fox.
Cameron’s franchise will see Rao joining Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder and Giovanni Ribisi, all returning to reprise their roles from the first blockbuster smash.
New to Avatar 2, with roles in the subsequent films, is stars Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin and Cliff Curtis.
Filming began on the second and third “Avatar” films in September, while plot details remain under wraps.
Cameron and Jon Landau are producing the films which are aiming for a Christmas 2020 and a Christmas 2021 release.
Winslet’s mysterious Avatar role is a character who’s part of the Sea People, the reef people. Curtis stars as Tonowari, the leader of a clan of reef people, and Game of Thrones’ Oona Chaplin as Varang, a prominent character described as being strong and vibrant.
Avatar 2 is set to premiere on December 18, 2020, while Avatar 3 will follow on December 17, 2021. The fourth film will premiere on December 20, 2024, while the fifth will hit theaters on December 19, 2025.
