Asa Butterfield reportedly set to play Spider-Man, will appear in ‘Civil War’
Marvel and Sony appeared to have decided on the next Spider-Man as Ender’s Game star Asa Butterfield is rumored to be in negotiations to close out the deal.
“We’ve been sitting on this information since Friday but can confirm now, that his reps and Marvel are under negotiations. Its all about formalities now and then an official announcement from Marvel will follow shortly,” writes Latino Review.
“Our sources on the ground don’t yet have details of the scope of the new Peter Parker role, but Marvel has said earlier in the year that the character would debut in next springs Captain America: Civil War, which is currently in production,” the report says.
Butterfield will make an appearance in Civil War, then have a standalone film in 2017, co-produced by Sony and Marvel Studios. It is presumed, and pretty safe to say, that Spidey will have a role in both Infinity War films.
Marvel and Sony have not confirmed this casting, but Butterfield certainly feels like a solid choice for fans to support. Butterfield, 18, starred in the aforementioned Ender’s Game, Hugo and is currently filming Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars.
Captain America: Civil War is set for May 6, 2016
The Untitled new Spider-Man film will open in theaters on July 28, 2017
