Angelina Jolie stars in ‘Maleficent’ trailer and poster, set for 2014
Disney has dropped the first teaser trailer and a poster to promote Maleficent, which stars Angelina Jolie as the titular character.
“You’ll be afraid,” she says as she emerges from the darkness.
Maleficent is a character made famous in Sleeping Beauty: she’s the evil enchantress who put the snoozing spell on Princess Aurora (here played by Elle Fanning) after being shunned from her birthday celebrations.
This revisionist tale aims to flesh out Maleficent’s back story, to explain how she ended up in exile.
From IMDB: The “Sleeping Beauty” tale is told from the perspective of the villainous Maleficent and looks at the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse young Princess Aurora.
Disney had great box-office success retelling the story of Oz The Great And Powerful, so it’ll be interesting to see if fans respond in a similar fashion.
Directed by Robert Stromberg and co-starring Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises), Peter Capaldi (the new Doctor in Doctor Who) and Sam Riley, the film arrives in theaters on May 30, 2014.
