Andrew Cuomo threatens to sue SCOTUS if they overturn Roe v Wade
In a very strange bizarre and ignorant rant, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned that he’ll sue the Supreme Court if they overturn Roe vs. Wade.
Cuomo’s odd threat came Wednesday, pushing for a bill in the state legislature that would establish abortion as a right under New York state law.
“We now need to codify Roe v. Wade, which will actually increase the protections in New York. God forbid they do what they intend to do. I want to get it done before the Supreme Court does that because I don’t want any gaps in a woman’s right to protection. We have a better legal case when the Supreme Court acts because I will sue when the Supreme Court acts,” Cuomo said in a statement, according to Rochester TV station WHEC.
That bill is being sold as preparation for the possibility that the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that normalized the right of woman to get an abortion.
Cuomo has been laying groundwork and raising funds to run for president in 2020.
“We will make America America again!” the governor roared to a crowd at Madison Square Garden back in February. At the time, Cuomo has sidestepped questions about his political future and has said he’s focused on a third term as governor.
