‘American Horror Story’ star Evan Peters joins ‘X-Men Days of Future Past’ as Quicksilver, possible setup for ‘Avengers 2’

Evan Peters, an actor who has portrayed a lead in both seasons of FX’s hit series American Horror Story, has been cast as super-fast mutant Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The Wrap reports that Peters joins the ensemble cast as director Bryan Singer made the announcement via twitter.

Here’s Singer’s Tweet:

Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPetersis joining #XMen#DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.

Quicksilver is gifted with superhuman speed. The character, who is the son of Magneto, first appeared in “X-Men #4” in 1964, alongside his twin sister, the Scarlet Witch.

Additionally, Avengers director Joss Whedon has spoken about adding the pair for Avengers 2, so the casting move could prove to link the two universes together. Saoirse Ronan is reportedly being sought for the Scarlet Witch role in Avengers 2, more on that here.

Kevin Feige recently explained how the characters could appear both in the Fox and Disney Marvel universes:

We both have [Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch]. There’s a specific arrangement with those two characters that would allow us to use them with “Avengers,” but not discuss or reference their mutant or Magneto-related lineage. They can use them as mutants and as Magneto’s relatives, but cannot have anything to do with “The Avengers.”

Peters appeared in American Horror Story: Murder House as antagonist Tate Langdon before starring as protagonist Kit Walker in the miniseries’ second season, American Horror Story: Asylum.

X-Men: Days of Future Past comes to theaters on July 18, 2014.
