Amber alert ends as 6-year-old Ollie Weidemann, mother Candace Harbin found dead in Texas parking garage

Police report that an Amber Alert for a missing 6-year-old boy has ended in tragedy as the boy, Phillip Oliver “Ollie” Weidemann and his mother, Candace Harbin, were both found dead inside a white minivan in a Waxahachie, Texas parking garage.

Waxahachie police made this extensive statement, via Facebook: “At approximately 6:35 p.m. Friday evening, the vehicle that had been listed in the Amber Alert was located in a Waxahachie parking garage. Waxahachie Police Department responded to the location after being advised that there were two unresponsive individuals in the vehicle.

“The individuals were deceased upon arrival, and were visually identified as the missing child, Oliver Weidemann, and the suspect, Candace Harbin. The cause of death and further details regarding this situation are not being released at this time, as this is an ongoing investigation. The Waxahachie Police Department extends our thoughts and prayers to all involved in this tragic situation.”

Police said Ollie was last seen getting picked up from school Thursday, but wouldn’t confirm at the time who picked him up.

John Wiedemann, Ollie’s father, who had custody of the boy, contacted police Friday morning when Ollie didn’t show up to school.

An Amber Alert was then issued Friday afternoon.

It said Ollie may be in “imminent danger” and the hunt was on for Candace’s white Nissan minivan.

Just after 6:30 p.m. Friday, hazmat crews responded to where Harbin’s white Nissan minivan was spotted in a parking garage near Jackson and Jefferson.

She and Ollie were inside the minivan, and pronounced dead.

Community members have been coming to the parking garage where their bodies were found all day Saturday to leave cards, flowers, and toys, stuffed animals and Hot Wheels cars, to honor the little boy who lost his life
