‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’ moved to 2018, ‘The Sinister Six’ to arrive in 2016

Ahead of SDCC Sony announced Wednesday some reshuffling within their Spider-Man franchise as the sequel to Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be delayed and the villain themed film, The Sinister Six, will arrive in its place.

the-amazing-spider-man-2012-logo-wallpaperThe Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard is still set to helm the Sinister Six but no other information was released. The Sinister Six will open in theaters November 11, 2016, so expect some news, possibly at Comic-Con.

Marc Webb is expected to return in the director’s chair on Amazing Spider-Man 3, but the film is getting bumped back a couple of years. The most recent film saw Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker face off against several foes: Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich aka Rhino, Dane DeHaan as the Green Goblin, and set up several other characters for the Six: Doc Ock, Vulture, Mysterio and one other which is likely Shocker or Cameleon.

Sony is delaying the third film in the rebooted franchise until 2018.

Deadline also added that the video game adaptation by Sony, Uncharted, will also arrive in 2016 – June 10, 2016, the date held by Amazing 3.

Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group prexy Doug Belgrad: “With Sinister Six in the hands of writer-director Drew Goddard, we feel extremely confident placing the film on a prime date in 2016.”

Belgrad added: “June 10 is a great date for Uncharted. It’s just the right place for this exciting action-adventure film.”

Here’s the synopsis on Uncharted: A descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nathan Drake believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray.

The Sinister Six will deal with a group of Spider-Man’s (many) enemies, with the sextuplet in question comprised of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, Mysterio, Vulture and Kraven the Hunter.

There was no update or mention of the Venom film project.
