Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s ‘Green New Deal’ strives for a ‘free stuff’ utopia without cars, airplanes and farting cows

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., released her much-touted “Green New Deal”on Thursday, a package of socialist, big government packages: free health care, free college, guaranteed federal jobs and a push to eliminate U.S. carbon emissions.

This is a ten year plan: “Americans love a challenge. This is our moonshot,” she writes. “When JFK said we’d go to the by the end of the decade, people said impossible. If Eisenhower wanted to build the interstate highway system today, people would ask how we’d pay for it.”

There is a shocking goal of expanding rail to end AIR TRAVEL: “Totally overhaul transportation by massively expanding electric vehicle manufacturing, build charging stations everywhere, build out highspeed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary, create affordable public transit available to all, with goal to replace every combustion-engine vehicle.”

She takes on the cows: “We set a goal to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions, in 10 years because we aren’t sure that we’ll be able to fully get rid of farting cows and airplanes that fast, but we think we can ramp up renewable manufacturing and power production, retrofit every building in America, build the smart grid, overhaul transportation and agriculture, plant lots of trees and restore our ecosystem to get to net-zero.”

Some highlights:

  • “Upgrading all existing buildings in the United States.”
  • “Guaranteeing a job with a family-sustaining wage … to all people of the United States.”
  • “Providing all members of society with high-quality health care, affordable, safe and adequate housing, economic security, and access to clean water, air, healthy and affordable food, and nature.”
When asked about the “Green New Deal” in an interview with Politico on Wednesday, Nancy Pelosi dropped this “shade” on it: “It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive. The green dream, or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it, right?”
Pelosi added: “Quite frankly, I haven’t seen it, but I do know it’s enthusiastic and we welcome all the enthusiasm that is out there.”
The move picked up the support Thursday of former Vice President Al Gore, who released a statement saying it marked “the beginning of a crucial dialogue on climate legislation in the U.S.
The Federalist outlines the “Most Insane” items on the plan:
1. Ban affordable energy. GND calls for the elimination of all fossil fuel energy production, the lifeblood of American industry and life, which includes not only all oil but also natural gas…
2. Eliminate nuclear energy. … calls for eliminating all nuclear power…This move would purge around 20 percent of American energy production so you can rely on intermittent wind for your energy needs.
3. Eliminate 99 percent of cars.
4. Gut and rebuild every building in America.
5. Eliminate air travel.
6. A government-guaranteed job.
7. Free education for life.
8. A salubrious diet. The GND promises the government will provide “healthy food” to every American
9. A house. The GND promises that the government will provide, “safe, affordable, adequate housing” for every American citizen.
10. Free money. The GND aims to provide, and I am not making this up, “economic security” for all who are “unable or unwilling” to work.
BONUS: Ban meat. (see above, those pesky cows)
