Alexandra Kogut murder: Clayton Whittemore trial set to move forward later in January
After several delays and postponements Clayton Whittemore may stand trial for murdering his girlfriend, Alexandra Kogut, later this month.
Clayton Whittemore, age 22, will have his trial begin on Jan. 27 in Rochester.
After initially pleading not guilty, Whittemore said he “just snapped” and then later considered an insanity defense. During the 911 call Whittemore confesses to the crime.
Whittemore, who is not a student at the college, admitted to causing the death of the victim according to the felony complaint, but pleaded not guilty in the arraignment hearing.
Her body was found at about 3 a.m. after her mother called the school concerned, officials said.
Whittemore is a former standout athlete at New Hartford and was featured as an “Athlete of the Week” by WKTV Utica in 2010 as a member of the hockey team. He was named Division II player of the year, according to the report.
Kogut was a freshman at SUNY Brockport, who graduated from New Hartford High this spring, swam freestyle on the school swim team and was very popular, 2011 graduate Eric Fitzgerald told Syracuse.com, who took Kogut to her senior prom.
