Alabama: Christa Screws identified as 6-year-old girl killed in gun accident

Geneva police identified the 6-year-old girl killed yesterday morning in her home as a Christa Screws.

Geneva Police Chief Tony Clemmons confirmed that the investigation is ongoing as Screws was found dead at the home on East Latimer Avenue.

“It looks like an accident but we’re not sure at this time. We’re still trying to put things together,” Clemmons said.

Geneva County Coroner Donny Adkinson also confirmed the accidental elements of the shooting at this point.

Other family members were home at the time of the shooting.

Christa is a student at Mulkey Elementary School.

An autopsy will be performed Tuesday.

Clemmons stressed the girl’s death is unrelated to shots fired last week during an ongoing argument in Geneva.
