Africa: Boko Haram Muslim terrorists, al-Barnawi, murder top leader, Mamman Nur

(International Christian Concern) –Boko Haram’s second faction, under the leadership of al-Barnawi, has killed a second commander in roughly a month. They reportedly killed Mamman Nur, one of their top leaders, on August 21. He supposedly had disputes with his lieutenants. Since his death, this faction has become more violent and is targeting more desperate targets.

They have now also killed another commander, Ali Gaga, who was loyal to Mamman Nur. It is being reported that Gaga was working with certain Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) to surrender and release nearly 300 captives. When other Boko Haram members heard this, they assassinated him before he could finalize and act on the plan.

This shows the brutality with which this faction is beginning to turn to due to its loss in strength. They are trying to regain the power that they have lost over the past several years. They currently have many captives, most notably, two aid workers from the Red Cross and Leah Sharibu, the last of the Dapchi girls still being held. They are threatening to kill these three people if the government in Nigeria does not meet their demands.
