‘AD The Bible’ season 2 will not happen on NBC as Mark Burnett confirms script

A.D. The Bible will not be continuing on NBC as the big network has opted not to go forward with a second installment of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey’s follow-up to their blockbuster miniseries The Bible.

Back in April, while promoting the Easter premiere, Burnett told Deadline that writers already were working on scripts for Season 2, so it’s no surprise they are planning to create an online channel for faith-based programming and use the series to launch the platform.

A.D. The Bible Continues starred Juan Pablo Di Pace as Jesus with Richard Coyle, James Callis, Babou Alieu Ceesay, Chipo Chung, and Adam Levy.

“When you’re dealing with Jesus in a screenplay, it’s not really the time for improvising,” said Downey.

The show’s ratings started out strong, with its first episode netting 9. 5+ million viewers, but those ratings steadily dropped for the succeeding episodes, and when the final episode rolled out in June, only 3.5 million viewers tuned in to watch.
