7 Things You To Do in Montreal
Truth be told, there are a gazillion things you can do in Montreal. But if you’re like everyone else (i.e. you have a job and other responsibilities) you probably won’t have much time on your hands to do everything. Even if you live in one of those impressive Montreal condos, you still won’t have time to see everything this city has to offer. So I’m only going to list those things that are in people’s bucket lists, the things that in my humble opinion best represent Montreal.
- Walk up to Mont-Royal
Anyone who has done his or her homework should know that the view from Mont-Royal is simply amazing, which is why it’s the best place to start your journey here. I’d recommend walking up to this 200-hectare park before sunrise. It’s only a 15-20 minute walk from Parc Avenue and you get to see the entire downtown Montreal from there.
- Take a food tour
Montreal is a foodie’s paradise and locals love to go on a gastronomic adventure. In fact, there are more restaurants per capita here than the Big Apple. If you love food, then you MUST try a food tour.
- Visit the markets
You can interact with the locals and try out stuff you’ve never seen in other places. A trip to a major market in Montreal in the summer is a real treat because everything’s in season and you’ll be able to sample delicacies like ice wines and preserves that you won’t find anywhere else. The two main markets in Montreal are Jean-Talon and Atwater.
- Go to a coffee shop
A trip to Montreal won’t be complete without visiting a coffee shop. Begin your day with a delicious cortado in Café Myriade or Café Parvis. You can also try our renown, freshly-baked Montreal bagels on St-Viateur or Fairmount .
- Eat a Poutine
It’s a sin to visit Montreal without sampling our famous Poutine. If you haven’t tried it yet, let me just warn you that it may not look appetizing, but looks are deceiving. Once you try it, you’ll understand why it’s on everyone’s list.
- Window shop on Mile End
Mile End is the Soho of Montreal, and you’ll find lots of boutiques here to keep you busy all day. A word to the wise – set a firm budget before you go to, it’s easy to go overboard with your shopping here!
- Taste local craft beers
Montrealers love good craft beer and we take the art of microbrewing seriously. You’ll know this when you visit bars/pubs in the evening, which are often packed. You can take a guided tour but I would recommend just visiting one or two on your own, for a more personal experience.
So there you have it – 7 must-do’s in Montreal. It doesn’t matter if you’re here for a day or a lifetime. These things are a must for everyone who comes here.
