3 Essential Mindset Shifts to Help Improve Your Wellbeing and Succeed in Life

People often look at ‘mindset shifts to become healthier’ only in the context of exercising or complex fitness and nutrition. If you want to achieve real results and, for example, lose weight, diet and exercise are not enough. It is only when you decide to shift your mindset that you begin to see solid results.

Sounds pretty good, huh?!

But can the same rule be applied in other contexts?

Let’s say we want to achieve career change or certain business objectives. Can our mindset shifts help us improve our wellbeing and support our ambitions that are not directly related to weight loss or exercise?

Apparently, it is possible and many people have succeeded.

None of the changes in life come into play until we work on the most significant aspect – mindset. Even if we design a perfect roadmap to achieve certain goals in life, it will not be sustainable and efficient until our mind is trained to prioritize the right things. Change starts with our thinking which is a choice.

So we decided to come up with a list of 3 essential mindset shifts that will help improve your general wellbeing and achieve whatever change you want in your life.

Let’s take a closer look at each of them.

#1. Uncover your emotional needs first instead of looking for answers elsewhere

We all try to find solutions to our daily problems, try to fix things that do not seem okay –especially when we compare ourselves to others — but we often forget to ask ourselves, “Why have I ended up here?’

If we really want to achieve change, we should take some time to get to know ourselves and our driving emotions.

Let’s take an example. Imagine recently you have not been feeling productive at work which makes you question your abilities and overeat every evening just to get rid of that stress.

In this particular case, stress-eating is just an emotional response to not feeling productive at work. In order to resolve the root problem, you should, first of all, dive deep into your emotions and understand why you are feeling unproductive.

Maybe it is because the job does not motivate you or because you do not get along with your colleagues as easily as you would like to, or maybe because the company values do not align with yours. Try to be honest with yourself and understand where those emotions come from.

Once you have understood the real cause of your emotions, tackle them with a reasonable solution instead of clinging to stress-eating, constant depression or even worse, trying to fix something without understanding what for.

When we deal with the real emotions behind our problems, we realize that most reactions to certain emotions are simply unnecessary.

#2. Be the driver of your own happiness instead of waiting to be happy

People are in a constant ‘waiting’ mode to become happy. They wait for a promotion at work, for another kg to be lost or, the worst, for that one person to come into their lives and make them happy. But very few people dare to think that it is actually the other way around — in order to succeed in life, people should think positively.

Research has shown that when people think positively about their lives and about the opportunities around them, they become healthier, more engaged at work and more successful. In fact, when our brain is positive, we are more creative, we experience 31% higher levels of productivity, and are 40% more likely to get a promotion at work.

So what can you do to become the driver of your own happiness?

  • Switch your negative-thinking into a positive one: use positive affirmations and positive visualization to help change your attitude towards a more positive one.
  • Get daily exercise and meditate: taking care of your body and mind is one the ways of succeeding in life and achieving better wellbeing.
  • Write down positive things you are grateful for: take 5 minutes every evening to write down all the positive things that happened to you during that day.
  • Surround yourself with positive people and events that will give you positive energy and will boost your motivation.

Creating daily happiness habits makes us realize that our happiness is not dependent on other people and things. When we start to feel happy, it helps us become healthier and achieve our goals on our own.

#3. Know that confidence is key and that self-sabotage is just a waste of time

We have all been to that dark place where our self-sabotage gets our self-confidence so low that depression seems like the only way out. Most of that self-sabotage occurs when we start to underestimate ourselves and not be able to see what we are actually capable of.

If we want to change the spin of constant failure to growing success, we should, first and foremost, work on our self-confidence.

The easiest way of regaining one’s self-confidence is by exploring one’s top strengths and characters traits. Studies have proved that when people know and use their strengths, they appear to be happier and more self-confident. The reason is that when people understand what they are good at, they are capable of owning their strengths which is directly linked to self-esteem and self-confidence.

So in order to remind yourself about your strengths, follow these simple steps:

  • Take a strength finder to identify your top strengths and personal skills,
  • At the same time, ask your friends and colleagues about your top character traits,
  • Combine the results and get your final top 5 strengths,
  • Try to incorporate your strengths in your daily activities,
  • Continuously practice your strengths and you will gradually feel more confident.

When we do more of what we are good at, we become happier and more satisfied with our work and life. And when we concentrate on our strengths instead of our weaknesses, we realize that self-sabotage is just a waste of time.

Mindset matters a lot when it comes to all aspects of life. If we want to achieve success in life, we should first of all work on our mindset and then move on to other things.

So do not underestimate the importance of mindset shifts if you want to improve your health and wellbeing in order to be ready for big changes in your life.

Keep staying positive and believing in yourself!
