2016? What about now!

It is slightly over one month into Barak Obama’s second term as president is a month. The “hope and change” has become sequestration (which is only a slight budget cut of the increase amount but that is a different article), no budget being passed in Washington DC for 4 years, $17 trillion in debt and a real unemployment rate of over 20% (if using the same calculation method used during depressionary times). To say we are facing some problems is an understatement.

With the country facing such an uphill battle you would think the mainstream media would be reporting on these issues in depth. You would think that were the case but you would be wrong.

No, right now the media wants to talk about who is running for president in 2016.

Really? 2016?

I am not even sure how this can be a hot topic of conversation only 30 days after the inauguration of our current president. With all of the issues that need resolving and as the streets are just being swept from the inauguration, our TV is filled with talk on whether Marco Rubio will run for president or if a sip of water has ruined his career. Will Rand Paul try to continue on the family battle for the White House? What will Hillary do? Or even Joe Biden?

I have another and more important question to ask; WHO CARES?

All of this talk about 2016 is a distraction from what is important and (if you are politically active or want to make some real changes to this country) the 2016 election should be the last thing on your mind. We don’t have any time to waste and this 2016 talk is starting to make some of us lose our focus.

Who will win the (or even run) the next campaign for president is a long way away and by the 2016 election nearly half of ALL the elected officials in office will have come up for re-election. In case you were unaware of this fact, there will be election cycles in 2013, 2014 and 2015 before the 2016 race for president. Focusing on one person who can not do anything for 4 years when so many bad politicians need to be replaced is a vast waste of resources and time. There is work to be done and it needs to start immediately.

Right now across the state of Florida there are municipal elections. These elections are happening in the next few months. That’s right, I said months not years. Your local government can be changed right now and those are the officials that effect more of your everyday life. You have the opportunity to make the biggest impact an individual can make and you can start today.

Many of us have come off of a busy, hard fought election cycle in 2012. It is hard not to take a break and rest but the time is now to start making lasting changes in our local governments. Wins that will inspire more and more people to take action in the next few years.

We talk about the thought of Liberty being local in 2013 and this is exactly what we are talking about. You will never find out about these small races on the television or mainstream media outlets. You will have to go look for them, find a good candidate to support or start running yourself. No matter which one you choose; “get in the game.”

There is a reason why we need to focus on candidates when we talk about debts, budgets, unemployment and economic hardships. It is the former candidates who are now in office that put us in this mess.

They broke it and now WE THE PEOPLE need to step up and fix it.

The current politicians need to be replaced with honest, citizen legislators and there is no time to waste.

It’s time to take liberty local!
